Accordingly, our Troop Winter Campout will be at Alpine Scout Camp in Alpine, NJ: 441 Route 9W, Alpine, NJ. The camp is located just off of the Palisades Parkway between the GWB and Mario Cuomo Bridge (otherwise known as the Tappen Zee Bridge). We will have a full Saturday of fun, winter events that the PLC will plan at our meeting on January 2nd. Please mark your calendars accordingly! We do have two cabins that each hold 14, so there is room for 28 in the cabins. The weekend will include our annual Chop’t cooking challenge, excellent leadership discussions facilitated by many of our parent leaders, and break-out sessions. Chop’t Cooking Challenge: Patrols will cook breakfast, lunch or dinner Saturday and Sunday Breakfast using ingredients from the pantry of foods the Troop will supply. Ingredients will include one mystery ingredient to be introduced 30 minutes into the challenge. We will shop for all food for the weekend Scouts do not need to bring any food. The camp is located just off of the Palisades Parkway between the GWB and Mario Cuomo Bridge (otherwise known as the Tappen Zee Bridge). We will have a full Saturday of fun, winter events that the PLC will plan at our meeting on January 2nd. Please mark your calendars accordingly! We do have two cabins that each hold 14, so there is room for 28 in the cabins. Paul Scarola Troop 113 will be backpacking in Harriman State Park along parts of the Appalachian Trail and pass through the famous Lemon Squeeze. This trip will have 2 separate hiking routes. The older crew (older Scouts and those attending Philmont in 2025), will start at the Southfields, NY Orange Turnpike Appalachian Trail (AT) parking lot (41.270451716241816, -74.18122433011553) and hike north 6.5 miles to the Fingerboard shelter. The younger Crew (new Scouts) will hike from Arden Valley Road (41.26412872441208, -74.13630737520877) and hike .5 miles on Crooked Road up to the Appalachian Trail, and then hike 2.1 miles to Fingerboard shelter. Both Crews will pass through the Lemon Squeeze. Both Crews will hike north on Sunday morning north approximately 1.1 miles to the Tiorati Circle parking lot and depart for home. Pick up will be Harborfields High School parking lot. Those attending will bring their own food (i.e.. backpacking meals and trail snacks and lunch). Scouts should wear their Class B uniforms for the ride up to the park. This will be the first of numerous MANDATORY Philmont shakedown backpacking trips to get the Philmont crews in shape and prepared. So, all those attending Philmont are MANDATED to attend this trip.
